Araku Valley

Situated 111 kilometres west of Visakhapatnam city, Araku Valley is a hill station in the Alluri Sitharama Raju district of the Andhra Pradesh state in India. It is a valley in the Eastern Ghats populated by many tribes, primarily the Araku Tribes. The Araku Valley's Anantagiri and Sunkarimetta Reserved Forests are mined for bauxite and are rich in wildlife. Araku is connected to Visakhapatnam by road and rail. Araku railway station is on the Kothavalasa-Kirandul railway line in the Visakhapatnam division of the East Coast Railway.

Top Places to visit in Araku Valley

1. Ananthagiri

Anantagiri, at an elevation of 1168 meters, is well-known for its large coffee plantations and abundance of waterfalls. The main road on the Eastern Ghats that connects the Araku Valley and Ananthagiri Town is located between one and two kilometres away from the waterfall.

2. Tribal Museum

The two-story museum, which reflects the way of life of the local aboriginal tribes, is constructed of metal and mud to give it a real tribal atmosphere. In addition, the museum has a Tribal Art and Crafts Center, which hosts workshops and exhibitions.

Timing: 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Entry Fee: Adults- Rs. 40, Kids – Rs.20.

3. Padmapuram Botanical Gardens

The 26-acre nursery features hanging homes that are 10 feet above the ground and have attached washrooms and a continuous water supply, along with orchards, a vibrant riot of flowers, a fantastic rose garden, exotic plants, and trees like pine and eucalyptus. The Garden also features a toy train by the name Araku Express.

4. Coffee Museum

The museum is home to an upmarket coffee house that offers premium coffee, chocolates, sandwiches, brownies, and other treats. There are 600 different kinds of chocolate and 60 different types of coffee to select from. The museum narrates the origin of coffee in Ethiopia and travels through the Araku Valley, Nilgiri Mountains, and Chikmagalur to reach Europe and India.

5. Mastyagundam

Mastyagundam, often called the "fish pool," is a magnificent pool on the Machkund River that is close to Matham village. A Shiva temple is located on the riverbank near it. The small pool is surrounded by a large barrier made of rocks and is teeming with fish of various sorts.

6. Galikonda Viewpoint

About thirty minutes away from Araku Valley, provides breathtaking views of the tall green mountains. At 3,800 feet, it is the second-highest summit in the Eastern Ghats. Observing the

verdant valleys, rivers, streams, railroad tracks, hillocks, and buildings from above is a treat for visitors.

7. Tyda Nature Camp

In the Eastern Ghats, halfway between Vizag and Araku Valley, lies this tribal community named Tyda. Known by another name, Jungle Bells, this nature camp offers archery, trekking, rock climbing, and bird watching as well as target shooting. Numerous species of birds and animals can be seen at this ecotourism attraction.

Timing: Open 24 hours every day

Entry Fee: Rs. 800 to Rs 1800.

8. Chaparai Water Cascade

It is situated approximately 15 km away from Araku Valley on the Paderu-Araku route. The Chaparai Waterfalls, referred to as Dumbriguda Waterfalls, are surrounded by luscious trees. The stream is broken up by smooth, slanting rocks that create a massive natural water cascade.

9. Infinity Campsite

Comfortable tents and lush green lawns are the attractions of Infinity Campsite in Mardaguda. It offers breathtaking views of the mountains. Perfect for large gatherings, this place allows you to spend the day on the greenery engaging in activities and the evenings relaxing by the bonfire.

10. Tatipudi Reservoir

situated in the Vizianagaram region, close to Srungavarapukoda (commonly known as S Kota), a town sandwiched between Vizag and Araku Valley. In 1963, the Tatipudi Reservoir was constructed above the Gosthani River. Boat trips and bird watching are available to tourists.

Timing: 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m
