Rameswaram is a small but significant town located on Pamban Island in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It holds a special place in the cultural and spiritual fabric of India, being one of the most important pilgrimage destinations for Hindus. The island is connected to the mainland by the iconic Pamban Bridge, a marvel of engineering that spans the narrow strip of sea. This is the most famous temple in Rameswaram, dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, which are considered the most sacred abodes of Shiva. The temple is known for its magnificent corridors, which are among the longest in the world, and its intricately carved pillars. Pilgrims perform rituals here, including a bath in the temple’s 22 holy wells (teerthams), which are believed to purify the soul.

Located right in front of the Ramanathaswamy Temple. This is one of the 64 sacred baths (theerthams) in Rameswaram. Pilgrims take a dip in the sea here before visiting the temple, as it is believed to cleanse sins. The beach here offers a beautiful view of the sunrise.

This is the first sea bridge in India, connecting the town of Rameswaram on Pamban Island to the mainland. The bridge offers stunning views of the sea and the surrounding landscape. Watching the train crossing the bridge is a unique experience. The bridge has a double-leaf bascule section midway, which can be raised to allow ships to pass through.

About 20 km from Rameswaram town. Known as the “Ghost Town,” Dhanushkodi was destroyed in a cyclone in 1964. It is now a popular tourist spot with remnants of the old town, a serene beach, and views of the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal. It is believed to be the spot where Lord Rama ordered Hanuman to build the famous bridge (Rama Setu) to Lanka.

This is the chain of limestone shoals between Pamban Island (Rameswaram) and Mannar Island (Sri Lanka). According to the Ramayana, this bridge was built by Lord Rama’s army to reach Lanka. Though much of the bridge is underwater, you can see parts of it from Dhanushkodi. It’s a site of great religious and historical interest.
This is the highest point on Rameswaram Island and offers panoramic views of the entire island. There is a two-storeyed temple here with footprints of Lord Rama on the chakra (wheel) in the sanctum. It’s an important place for devotees and a great spot for photography.

It is located near Dhanushkodi. Temple is believed to be where Vibhishana, the brother of Ravana, surrendered to Lord Rama. It’s surrounded by the sea on three sides and has beautiful paintings depicting scenes from the Ramayana.

Located near Dhanushkodi, this site is dedicated to Jatayu, the mythical bird who fought Ravana to rescue Sita. The temple is a reminder of the bird’s loyalty and bravery. A small temple is built here, and it is a peaceful spot for reflection.

Located within 2 kilometers of the Ramanathaswamy Temple, this temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and is renowned for its display of floating stones, believed to have been used in the construction of the Rama Setu.
