Thattekadu, situated in Kerala's Ernakulam district, is renowned for the Thattekadu Bird Sanctuary, celebrated as one of India’s richest bird habitats. Often dubbed a bird watcher’s paradise, this sanctuary was the first in Kerala, established on the recommendations of the esteemed ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali. The sanctuary's mix of deciduous and tropical evergreen forests creates a thriving environment for diverse flora and fauna. In addition to its vibrant birdlife, the area also hosts butterflies, amphibians, and small mammals such as civets and mongooses.
Best time to visit is November to February, as the weather is pleasant and migratory birds are abundant.
